ECO-index

English (en) svenska (sv)

ECO-index is a marking system of Klättermusen (Swedish company) products' impact on the environment, or it’s so called footprint. The idea is to enable consumers to compare products and also pay attention to a product's environmental impact. Klättermusen creates its own ECO-index by setting up dozens of environmental criteria that they evaluate each product against to obtain a certain percentage for each. This way they find out how much more is need to be done in order to make the product completely environmentally friendly. These environmental criteria may include product life, the environmental performance of membranes and waterproofing processes, persistence, if it is made from natural non-fossil material and if the product can be recycled in an established system. They will keep score on the item for each criterion and compare it to the maximum score and thus find out a percentage. Klättermusen uses not only the ECO-index to evaluate individual products, but uses the index to evaluate the collections and they have evaluated their old collections from 2006 onwards. This is a great way to see how the company's environmental program has developed over the years.
