Made-By

Made-by is a nongovernmental organization working with and towards textile companies’ social and environmental work. The organization aims to "clean up" fashion company manufacturing chains and make them more socially responsible.
This Dutch initiative was founded by Solidaridad, an organization that works with fair trade. Today, the Made-By organization has about 35 members, including Jackpot, EDUN LIVE, and Kuyichi.
Made-by works as a label for fashion companies to use in order to display, for its consumers, the whole manufacturing chain from the design stage to where and by whom the fabric was woven and so on. The organization also guides the fashion companies in economic decisions and issues regarding the environment and fair manufacturing, as well as it gives advice for optimizing the manufacturing process. The company works closely with suppliers, seeking to, among other things, provide environmental certifications. Networks have also been established to promote cooperation between factories and suppliers of organic cotton or other materials. This is to help each other, and to take environmental responsibility.
The aforementioned labelling is, since a couple of years, a blue button sewn on the garment. The button carries a number, linked to the specific product. With this number you can track and follow the entire manufacturing chain of the product, everything from the design stage to the carding of the fabric, the sewing and the packing.
One of the requirements for labelling a product with the Made-By button is that the product is manufactured with an organic material, such as organic cotton. The manufacturing process also needs to be sustainable. It is also extremely important that Made-By themselves and the companies that are members of the organization are transparent, open and honest in all aspects of the manufacturing process for its consumers.
