Laundry Design was founded in 2009 by Helena Lundström with the idea of giving old garments and fabrics a new life with a new, unique design and also give added value to the person wearing the garment. The garments are either custom ordered from people who wish to create new pieces of what they already have in their wardrobe, or made from handed-in garment and fabrics which Helena freehandedly converts and creates something new from. The operations is located in a studio in Gothenburg, called Laundry Room. The name Laundry Design represents the restoration of the old clothes becoming new ones; an old unused piece of clothing is thrown into the machine, and out comes a fresh, new piece.
Helena Lundström also organizes workshops and courses, where she teaches how to transform simple garments with small tricks and simple tools. The mainidea of LaundryDesign is not to be a profitable company. but rather to give inspiration to creatively modify existing materials into something new, and changing people's way of thinking concerning sustainability.
