1% for the planet is a non-profit organization founded in 2002 to raise charity for the environmental sector. Since the start 1% FTP has become one of the largest organizations to help profit-seeking organizations work with environmental issues. In 2008, 1% FTP had via its members successfully donated over 30 million dollars to nearly 1,500 environmental organizations worldwide. Companies that have been accepted as members follow the 1% FTP agreement to donate 1% of its annual sales to organizations working with environmental issues. The company may itself decide which organization they want to donate money to and the total amount is never transferred via 1% FTP, but directly to the desired organization.
In spring 2008, 1% FTP had over 850 members who together donated $ 12 million. The organization is not directed specifically to the textile business but many of the members are active in this industry.
