Recycling of textile products, or of production waste, means bringing back the textile product to fiber stage and subsequently arrange the fibers (wadding, yarns, fabrics, knits, etc.), and from this manufacture new textile products. Hence, the fibers are recycled.

Tearing of a textile fabric results in damage on most of the fabric’s fibers, leading to shorter fibers; this is, in terms of quality, a disadvantage. A textile product made from shorter fibers receives poor mechanical properties, and, consequently, limited areas of use. Other difficulties when recycling fibers lies in the need for sorting by fiber type and color.

There are various types of recycling; mechanical, thermal or chemical. Different recycling techniques are used for different types of textile fibers.
